Bogalusa Bandstand

There were many spin offs of Dick Clark's American Bandstand where a bunch of dumb ass kids danced to songs Dick got paid to play and promote. In most cases, they were local rip off productions in mostly large metropolitan cities.

One exception was in the small town of Bogalusa, Louisiana. Although Bogalusa is best known in Louisiana for its "smell of death" due to a paper mill, many have forgotten Bogalusa Bandstand, a southern version of American Bandstand that was televised live every Saturday in the early 60s.

Only little white inbreds were allowed in and they always would book black singers and made them move around funny. All the white kids would just sit back, chew tobacco and stare suspiciously (as they were taught at home to do) at the black performer.....better known back then as the "Negro Performer of the Week".

Here's some rare footage I found of "Bogalusa Bandstand".
